Maybe not, but neither is tuba, and Opus made it work in his Heavy Metal band.

The French horn is such a beautiful instrument! It may not be a rock instrument, but Miles Davis sure made it a wonderful jazz instrument on Birth of the Cool and Miles Ahead .
