If you go to an emergency room at the hospital, they have to help you. They'll fix it, put a cast on it and grudgingly send you a bill (that they realize will probably turn into a court case.) I would say that if you have no money, job or insurance you'd probably get medical assistance/welfare, but would have to already be receiving it to not cause a confustication.

The new government is trying to achieve just that, but are and will no-doubt get lots of opposition from conservatives and the rest of the "me/I" party. The "we/us" party will probably get this off of the ground in the next year or so. One of the good things about the U.S./Obama version of Universal Healthcare is that, if you want to keep your current provider and pay the fees, you can. If you can't afford it, you can be a part of the Universal bit.

If our emergency rooms (here, in my "sanctuary" county) weren't already
filled to capacity with illegals suffering nothing more than headaches, it'd
sure make for much better health care here.

Jus' sayin.'

While on the subject, if universal care is so adored, why are Canadians
running down here to get treated - and pay our outrageous fees?

I'll tell you why - because they will DIE waiting to have surgery up there.

They have no choice. You wait until you're seen - or you die.

Sounds like a good case for elderly euthanasia if we go any further down
the road to socialism. It's been done before.

The Germans can tell you all about it.

Realistically, we already treat those who can't pay. What's the difference?

I've been paying for their "universal care" for my entire career! LOL

And why can't I afford to have my teeth fixed? My insurance only offers
dental DISCOUNTS - not acceptable.

Do they not think we need our teeth?

Dental coverage here is WORSE than medical coverage if you ask me.

That's just sad.
Don't start none...won't be none.

Plainly put, Democrats generally want universal healthcare and Republicans don't. While it seems that Dems want everyone to be taken care of evenly, fairly, all-the-same (like the Oaks who were all chopped to the same size in the Trees) but conservatives call that socialism and/or communism. They want everyone to fend for themselves, the weak die out while the strong survive, keeping the government out of our business, while the left want everyone to pay into a plan where everyone has the same medical opportunities (ideally.)

Me too, Cyg! That's why I'm still on the fence about the whole thing...that and the waiting until you die bit.

Well, it is just you and me on the Dem side in this neighborhood. There are a few of us that are neither and both, but generally speaking we are the minority within these walls.

You should'a been around in the fall of last year. Blood was flyin! It was a lot of fun. :-)

Oh, and since the Obama phenomenon they say that the majority of people are now not Republicans. Not necessarily Democrat, but no longer on the Wrong...er, Right. :-D

I will still never understand american politics...but to me the government deserves to treat everyone the same...was gonna say something else but something else i need to know

you talk about welfare...now this will be the same as our income support I gather which comes off the tax of people working....does your government ever threaten to stop the welfare if it shows they are not looking for employment..?

Not sure about that. I think so, but someone else might know for sure. I know that you have to do like 2 interviews per week if you are getting Unemployment payments (from being laid off from a job) but not sure about the Welfare system.

This is why this is so hotly contested here in America Schu.. I dont know how people are in Scotland, but here in America.. there are a lot of deadbeat, lazy people who want to blame their problems on other people. and it has nothing to do with political affliation, there are a lot of hardworking democrats out there I just think Democrats tend to be softer on social issues, which is not all bad.. The problem is the people that actually need the help suffer because of the lazy worthless people in this country.

then again we've under 6 million population..so as I said it's a completely different situation
